Ringworm |
"Ringworm is very badly named
because it is caused by a fungus
not a worm", says Dr. John
Angus, a veterinary dermatologist
at the University of Illinois. Ringworm causing fungus lives in humans, animals, and soil. Ringworm of the scalp usually begins as a small pimple that grows, leaving scaly patches of temporary hair loss. Infected fur breaks off easily. Skin rashes can extend to the whole body. Some ringworm infections show yellow crusts. Ringworm is spread by direct contact with other infected dogs or contaminated items. Clipping your dogs fur helps to get rid of ringworm. Sunlight relieves ringworm too. Ringworm treatment can last 3 to 8 weeks. Treat your home until the results are negative to avoid re-infection. Fungal spores can persist in your carpet for up to 2 years. Your vacuum cleaner is a fungal paradise. If your dog has ringworm, change the bag each time you use it. Treatment of ringworm with herbal remedy: Bathing with Neem Soap or Neem Shampoo and rubbing Neem Oil onto the dog skin clears ringworm in several days.
